While stepping out early on this January morning, accompanied by my loyal friend, I really felt the sense of our 6 legs synchronised, and we covered a significant distance. I decided to leave all podcasts, audible books and playlists for another time and focus on the rhythm of the awakening day. A wise old owl recently shared with me that I needed to listen to the pattern and timbre of my footsteps and that was the only music I needed to guide my day. With ice to respect and water to navigate that rhythm varied. From strong and resonant, to that ‘slip slide’ moment of panic and balance regained, to the pound needed to reach the top of the hill and then, gloriously the dancing steps back down again. And so, what did I learn that I can take forward into my every day. I will most probably always need to vary my pace, depending on what I am doing, considering my energy reserves, mindful of who I am with and what the expected outcome, either individually or collectively. As I write, I am dancing still, so this does bode well for the rest of this beautiful day.
The extent to which I can focus mindfully whilst walking does not reach the full 90 minutes of my walk today. Regardless witnessed some wonderful sights and experienced some marvellous insights. I had a very happy chat with a local farmer. We both exchanged life stories in less than ten minutes. And a marvellous conversation with a kite. It’s amazing what you connect with when you step out of your boundary of time, space and what you thought was your purpose.

And so back to music and coffee and the laptop, but to help the transition, John Rutter is certainly not just for Christmas.

What dictated your rhythm this morning?

What can you do tomorrow to influence the day you really want to experience?
