It is an exciting but scary time of transition for me, as I leave a 30-year career in education, to coach those who work and want to thrive not just in education but all walks of life.
I don’t know about you but there is always that edge of exhilaration, entwined with uncertainty. As those who know me well are aware, I can be so confident and determined on the outside, whilst inside sometimes a butterfly, never knowing for sure which direction to take, sometimes very fragile like the little girl I used to be.
Regardless, life continues for us all and my determination to love the circumstances I am creating for myself now as I head towards my autumn years is giving me a buzz.
As I sit here on this Saturday morning, having tied up the laces of my running shoes I get that familiar urge to just go for it. There will be times as I run that planned 11K that I will want to stop, and I might, get out of breath, and I will slow down, wave to the locals and so rebuild momentum, remember my recent first ever half marathon, drawing on my previous success and knowing that at the end of the 11K run I will be meeting my husband as he finishes his volunteering stint at the local community shop. So, for all the complication that transition points in our life may bring it all feels beautifully simple – for today at least! I will take that with thanks.
George Michael is on my playlist as I type and as songwriter and philosopher, I will tune in to him as guide, as I have done for all my adult life.
